Our HeartStrings challenge this month is Layer Cakes and that is a challenge for me because I don’t really like layer cakes and unlike Jelly Rolls and Fat Quarters which I have overflowing drawers full of … I have 2 Layer cakes.
I spent more time looking at ideas on line and in my books than I did sewing today and in the end I decided on something easy … a Lattice Quilt.
I made one years ago from scraps and have directions on my website at this link.

A couple years ago, I found a link to a video to make a larger version using Layer Cakes … I used smaller squares cut from my scrap bins to make this version.

This time, I grabbed one of the 2 layer cakes I have and started cutting and sewing.

I needed something pretty easy because we head back to VA in 3 weeks and I’ve got a lot to accomplish while I’m home. The other goal is to get 3 tops quilted and of course I’ll have to prep projects to work on in VA in July.
Moonkin Stitchery’s YouTube channel has a number of quick layer cake quilts. Most are quick and easy. I’ve made several projects of hers
I’m going to have to check out your link, I really like the looks of this one! I’m sure I have some scraps in my bin that could be cut into 10″ squares! I don’t have any layer cakes, I don’t think I’ve ever had one. Thanks for making your patterns available to us!
I really love the colors in the first one. It reminded me that I need to get out those 5″ packets of squares purchased long ago. Thanks for sharing Mary.
I love this design! It looks great in a restrained color palette as well as a brighter scrappy selection.
