Fat quarters

Our monthly challenge for January is Fat Quarters so I dug around in several bins … Fat Quarters and Jelly Rolls are my favorite precuts and I have lots of both of them.

I finally narrowed it down to 2 sets … thinking I was going to make my Easy Flock of Geese quilt.

But then I decided I wanted to go even easier and decided on making a St Louis 16 Patch quilt. I’ve done a number of these over the years and always like how they turn out. Here’s a link to the pattern I use.

It takes a while to load so you’ll have to be a bit patient.

I chose my bundle, paired them up and started making blocks.

After sewing a while, I needed a break so sat down with my knitting. I thought there was enough left in this skein to make this 2nd hat but I was wrong. Luckily, I have another skein here I can use to finish it up.

  1. I like this. I have been trying to figure out a leader and ender project or another scrap project. I have been so busy with life that I have not made it a priority to sew. I really enjoy seeing your finishes. I just pretend I am your cheerleader! You got this January Challenge! You go girl!!!! Petal to the metal!!!

  2. I used this 16 patch pattern many times. Really happy with the ease and size for donation quilts.

  3. Your fabric selections are gorgeous. I’m looking forward to seeing your flimsy. I may pull similar fat quarters and sew along with you! But don’t overdo, remember to rest often. You are such a wonderful example of how to make lemonade when life gives you lemons.

  4. I have a huge weakness for fat quarters too. And didn’t realize how many jelly rolls I had until looking for a particular one last month. I am going to use a large FQ bundles of batiks I’ve been saving in this year’s Saturday Sampler. Time to use that bundle.

  5. Mary, thank you for the copy. I like it better, and the illustrations for cutting a fat quarter. I buy very few FQ, but I have used my die cutter to slice a LOT of scrap fabric into 4.5″, & 2.5″ strips. I grabbed some quickly to take this weekend. There may not be enough choices to play well together, so I’ve already warned my hubby that I’ve located two fabric stores near the campground.
