Ooops

Date night to celebrate our anniversary … nothing fancy, just a dance on Main Street and dinner out.

And then the ooops … another fall. My balance is so unsteady these days. I don’t know what I should do. Not sure if the ankle is broken or sprained. I should probably have it looked at but I do have a brace and a boot here from the previous times I broke and sprained the other one. Luckily, this is my left ankle so I can still drive to VA on Friday. That knee is pretty painful too – I twisted the ankle and went down on the knee. I’m too young for all these falls!

Keith was fussing over me but not mad that I “ruined” our anniversary celebration.

  1. Mary, so sorry to hear of your fall. I know that during and after my chemo treatments, I had a horrible time with my balance and suffered many falls. Prayers and good thoughts are with you. Take care.

  2. So sorry to read of your fall Mary
I hope your recovery is swift.
Thank you for your regular blog, I really enjoy hearing about your life in Big Canoe and your travels. Hope the injury doesn’t slow you down too much.

  3. I am sorry to hear you are yet facing another medical challenge. I hope it is not broken but glad you have the tools to handle the situation. Sounds like it may be time for a temporary cane to give you more balance. Good luck in reaching a satisfactory solutions to yet another oops. Happy Anniversary! Great to have Keith there is help out.

  4. Oh no!!! Dang it! I was so happy to see the pic of you dancing! Perhaps get it checked out “just in case”?

  5. You are too young for falls. I’m 80 now and from January to Halloween last year I fell 8 times. Very hard painful falls, but no sprains or breaks. I finally made rules for myself and haven’t fell once. Maybe you need to make rules too. Happy anniversary and many more. Take care Mary.

  6. I’m so sorry you fell. I’m sure Keith will take good care of you. I hope no breaks. I hope you have a good time with your mom.

  7. Sorry to hear about your falls. You should look into physical therapy. There are ways to improve your balance. I do a few exercises that I found on Facebook that have helped me a lot. Most are simple like standing on one foot with something to hold onto if needed. Walk heel to toe. Stand and raise up on your toes – again with something to grab if you need it. I fit them into the course of my day like toe raises every time I go into the bathroom, standing on one foot when I pass by the kitchen sink, etc. I get quite a few in over the course of the day.

  8. Please get xrays to be certain. I’ve seen too much Ortho surgery to let an ankle slide. I couldn’t get my balance back after knee replacement x2 so I signed up for a senior class at the nearest gym that focused on balance and overall strength with some aerobics. 90 days of 2-4/week and I’m golden. (of course there are YouTubes if you prefer to do it at home!)

  9. Oh no! Hope it’s just a sprain and heals quickly. My balance isn’t the best these days either, and the flare up of Achilles tendonitis has made it worse because I favor that leg.

  10. Belated Happy Anniversary to you & Keith! Bummer that you fell and hurt the ankle. The knee abrasion looks painful, too. Hope you are not in the area of the wildfires happening in GA. Enjoy your trip to see your mom.

  11. So sorry Mary to hear you fell. You have had more than your share of medical drama this past year. I hope it heals, but I see your next post your ankle is fractured. Well, now you will get a lot of knitting and crocheting finished. :o) You handle everything so well, and I’m keeping you in my prayers. I know this is a set back for you at this time Your an inspiration to us all. (hugs)
