Quilted

The last of the Maine tops is quilted. Pieced by Barbara at the last sew-in. Once it’s bound, I’ll send 6 quilts to Brenda for donation in Maine and then I’ll finish up my RWB ones for donation and take them up in September.

The quilting doesn’t show up so well on the front but it looks good on the back!

I don’t know the name of this one … it came with my machine but it’s one I use pretty often. I like the looks of it.

  1. I first saw this pattern in an Ursula Reikes book and she called it Illinois Road (I grew up in Indiana and can verify that roads in much of Illinois and Indiana do meet in perfect 90 degree angles!). Other people have called it Windmill. It probably has a dozen other names! It is one of my favorite patterns.

I love your quilt panto — it is elegant but not fussy. Nice job! I, too, work with a long arm, but lately it seems every quilt I work on, whether mine or other people’s, the borders flare and it seems all of the excess on the quilt ends up shoved down to the bottom right corner. The borders look flat enough before I put the quilt on the long arm. It has happened when I ran pantos left to right and also when I did custom quilting from the center out. When it happens to one of my quilts (not very often, I might add), I blame myself for not handling the border right, but I feel terrible when it happens to someone else’s top. By the time the flaring starts, it is too late to take the quilt down and resize the border. Suggestions on why I might be doing wrong on the long arm?

And by the way, I am loving the photos that show almost day by day how your hair is growing back! You are so strong!!
