Pillowcases

You know I like using up everything I can … it’s been cold here in VA and I ordered some flannel sheets. We don’t use king size pillowcases … and I typically resize them for a standard pillow but neither of us use flannel pillowcases. There were 2 with the sheet set I’d ordered and Keith asked if I wanted him to throw them away …. I looked at them and said …NO!! I can use them for the back of little quilts!! I trimmed off the seams and now have two new backings ready!

I know I have 4 king size flannel ones at home too that came with my “winter” sheet sets that I bought when we moved full time to Big Canoe so I’m going to dig those out when I get home and use them for backings too! They’ve never been used and will make cozy backings for these little quilts.

We had a nice visit today with my brother and his wife and tomorrow I’ll be going back over to visit Mom. I did get another little quilt pin basted tonight and I’m going to borrow some binding supplies (needles and clips) from Mom so I can hand stitch the first two bindings down.

These little quilts are such a fun project!! Mom gives me most of the little ones she makes to donate but she keeps a few here for local donations around Christmas time. I used that as an excuse to shop for some critters for her at Dollar General! I told her to take her pick and she chose the kitty, the leopard, and the bear so the tiger and puppy will come home with me!

  1. You are such an inspiration. Those flannel PCs will work great for little backings. Love those toys. Your mom is an inspiration, too.

  2. Great use for those pillowcases! Your mom chose the cutest of those stuffy critters for her little quilts.

  3. The flannel sheets make nice quilt backings for all size quilts and can be more economical than buying yardage. Good use of the pillowcases, just the right size.

  4. So sweet of you to share the Critters with your Mom for her local donations, Mary. Good thinking on using those pillowcases as backings for little quilts!
