I finally got downstairs for a couple hours … the reds are prepped and ready to sew – I dug through some of my red scraps and some that Mom gave me. Cut some strips, cut some triangles for the corners, and I cut the last of my muslin into foundation squares. I’m going to have to find a new place to buy my muslin now that Joann’s is closed.

Not sure if this will be any good for your Muslin but you could try

My DH found this web site and I also bought their muslin to make backdrops for my
daughters photography. It would have to be washed first because of shrinkage.
Quilted Twins – they have a large online business as well as walk in’s (Florida)…..a good place to check out! Their prices are very reasonable. Deb E / CA
It’s so strange that there is no more Joann’s. Your strips look pretty.

I have been using their fabric for several years now. I haven’t come up with anything I haven’t liked! (and I maintain an inventory of 12 wide bolts for backings!
Elle, I’m curious which of MDG’s fabrics (patterns, colors…) you like for backings? Their whole-bolt prices are low enough that I’ve been considering them.
HI Laura, I have used a variety. Each category has a name so here is what I’ve tried.
Scrolling Tonal
Grunge Paint
Brush Strokes
Circle Back-I prefer the light gray
Tonal Vineyard
Marble Tonal
Their color patches online are very close to reality which is sometimes challenging.
I worked on some string blocks this weekend too, mostly as leaders/enders as I sewed some blocks into rows. The reds and blues will be very pretty!
Love the red selection. Can’t wait to see the string blocks ready to be added to your stack fir the quilt
You could check Marshall Dry Goods (MDG) for muslin. Actually a number of fabrics you get in the June Doe bundles at jellyrollfabric.net are fabrics that MDG manufacturer and sells.
Keep us posted if you find a good place.
Would it make any difference if you used pieces of fabric that you don’t like, to sew them on.
