Tomatoes, Poppies, Apples?

Interesting to read all the comments on the rectangle quilt….Keith came up with the apple grove one when I asked how he liked it.

Several people have commented on Bonnie’s pattern — I know she has a rectangle/4 patch quilt on her site but I’m not using her instructions.

Vicki and I saw a quilt in a shop in VA and both bought fabric last year — Vicki finished hers in November and it uses larger rectangles than my quilt. When I bought my rectangle die for the GO cutter — I used those dimensions (3.5 x 6.5) to modify the one Vicki and I originally saw.

I love Bonnie’s quilts but if I was doing this one without my cutter — I would have definitely used the larger rectangles like Vicki used.

Wherever you find your inspiration — it’s a fun quilt to make.

Yes we all see a lot of the same antique quilts and then reproduce them to the size / way we want.
Most of us just make up our own patterns, when I saw your quilt I Loved it, your fabric choices are beautiful for it and I remembered an antique quilt I saw that was similar
    it was in solids though!

The reason that I used larger rectangles was because I started with a layer cake of fabric. The whole quilt came about because my MQR Secret Stitcher sent me a layer cake of that fabric. I wanted to use the entire piece so I cut my 10″ squares in half and built the design off of that.I would have never bought that fabric for myself but that is now one of my favorite quilts!

Looking good! I’m glad you’re enjoying your cutter… I’m afraid to get things like that, sometimes, because they look good but end up (like my food processor)dustily hiding in a closet.

At quilt group – people often ask me for a pattern and I tell them – I didn’t use a pattern! Just cut your strips this size or center a novelty in a square and then cut it that size, etc. Usually I cut my borders 6.5″ because that is the width of my ruler! So, I totally understand you making your patterns based on what size your cutter cuts! Makes sense to me!
    Cheers! Evelyn

    Look on p.35 & p.120 of the Spring/Summer 2009 issue ;)

No mater what the colors I do love this pattern ;)

    Love from Texas! ~bonnie
