Stephanie has chosen half square triangles for July’s precut and I’ve got a project in mind already. If you’re playing along and need some inspiration, I’ve gathered a few photos of my HST quilts – it’s one of my favorite blocks to work with especially when I can cut them with my Accuquilt GO.
Quilt notes/brief instructions can be found on my website for these and other quilts.
Before I can start my July HST project, I need to finish up the Jelly Roll top. I spent the afternoon in the sewing room piecing, loading a quilt on the longarm and binding. I still don’t love this one but I don’t hate it either and I’m hoping that when it’s finished and donated it will provide some warmth and comfort to someone!

All of those quilts are so pretty. I absolutely love the first one though. I can’t wait to see what you come up with for the new one. Or are you doing one of these patterns?
I am in love with each & every one of those HST quilts… wow! July is gonna be g-o-o-d!
I have to admit that your jelly roll top is not my favorite. I had a top I hated once a lot more than this one but I added borders plain solid borders in complimentary colors and it took three borders in colors I would never picked without a color wheel but after the third it looked good. I got lots of comments on it and the girl who gave it to a friend in need loved it. I can’t believe the change. Maybe there are borders in your future!
Lots of great ideas here in the HST quilts. I like the block design in your jelly roll quilt, I think your problem with it might be those dark blocks with lower contrast. Could you put them on the corners? Or leave them out?
You’ve posted a LOT of great ideas, Mary!! Off to dig out some HSTs to play with during July…
Thanks for all the great examples for using HSTs. I am sure whoever receives your jelly roll quilt will very appreciative.
Judy, I noticed that dark purple block right away too. When I have blocks like that, I do what you said and put them in the corners. Otherwise I like this quilt, and once it’s quilted (I never judge a quilt until it’s quilted) I think it will be very nice.
Gorgeous eye candy. How did you make your half square Rectangles on that 1st quilt? The only way I have seen is so complicated I would never do it, but I love the look of them. And it is a great way to make the square quilt into a rectangle.
Beautiful selection. Thanks for sharing. Love the Carpenter’s Wheel.
