July Precut Party

Stephanie has chosen half square triangles for July’s precut and I’ve got a project in mind already. If you’re playing along and need some inspiration, I’ve gathered a few photos of my HST quilts – it’s one of my favorite blocks to work with especially when I can cut them with my Accuquilt GO.

Quilt notes/brief instructions can be found on my website for these and other quilts.

Before I can start my July HST project, I need to finish up the Jelly Roll top. I spent the afternoon in the sewing room piecing, loading a quilt on the longarm and binding. I still don’t love this one but I don’t hate it either and I’m hoping that when it’s finished and donated it will provide some warmth and comfort to someone!

  1. All of those quilts are so pretty. I absolutely love the first one though. I can’t wait to see what you come up with for the new one. Or are you doing one of these patterns?

  2. I have to admit that your jelly roll top is not my favorite. I had a top I hated once a lot more than this one but I added borders plain solid borders in complimentary colors and it took three borders in colors I would never picked without a color wheel but after the third it looked good. I got lots of comments on it and the girl who gave it to a friend in need loved it. I can’t believe the change. Maybe there are borders in your future!

  3. Lots of great ideas here in the HST quilts. I like the block design in your jelly roll quilt, I think your problem with it might be those dark blocks with lower contrast. Could you put them on the corners? Or leave them out?

  4. Thanks for all the great examples for using HSTs. I am sure whoever receives your jelly roll quilt will very appreciative.

  5. Judy, I noticed that dark purple block right away too. When I have blocks like that, I do what you said and put them in the corners. Otherwise I like this quilt, and once it’s quilted (I never judge a quilt until it’s quilted) I think it will be very nice.

  6. Gorgeous eye candy. How did you make your half square Rectangles on that 1st quilt? The only way I have seen is so complicated I would never do it, but I love the look of them. And it is a great way to make the square quilt into a rectangle.
